The New Haven County crash happened on the evening of Thursday, March 21 in the city of Meriden.
At approximately 10 p.m. that day, near the intersection of Broad Street and East Main Street, a pickup truck reportedly crashed into the “City of Meriden World-War Roll Of Honor,” the city’s WWI monument, knocking it over and causing significant damage.
Though the car fled from the scene before authorities arrived at the scene, police recovered a portion of the car’s headlight, which had fallen off in the crash.
An investigation revealed that the headlight belonged to a Ford F150 truck manufactured between the years of 2018 and 2020 – a description that matches one from a witness who reported seeing the car flee south on Broad Street towards Wallingford.
Additionally, police said the witness noted the car was white and should have noticeable damage to its front end.
Meriden Police are continuing to investigate the situation.
Anyone with information regarding the crash is encouraged to contact Detective Jad Hadir at 203-630-6250.
